SUMMIT OVERVIEW: The Circuit Media (Pty) Ltd is delighted to announce the dates to the African Traditional Leadership Summit 2017.

At the apex of the event will be the signing into being of the SADC Council of Traditional Leaders, preceding the incorporation and launch.

When things go wrong in Africa, at local government or community level, people look to traditional leaders for answers.

It is therefore paramount for traditional leaders to be proactive in their relations with local citizens, in order to relay and effectively communicate their needs to a responsive government or local authority.

It is also important for leaders of the traditional institution to have strong communication channels in municipal councils and in government.

Recent events have shown that traditional leaders are summoned when problems arise over land disputes, municipal demarcation, land claims and community development among other matters.

They promote peace and unity via their oversight of communities through customary law

The Summit seeks to explore new frontiers for traditional leaders; learning from lessons of colleagues who have successfully ventured into business as a measure to support local communities among other things.

This event will consolidate the efforts of traditional leaders and local authorities in running the every day lives of Africans, not only in times of need.

The Summit was designed to be the largest ever gathering of African traditional leaders, leaders in government, policy makers and experts in municipal and local government management for the purposes of enhancing knowledge and attitudes, creating a platform for idea exchange, confronting challenges and strengthening the institution and position of traditional leaders in governance and development-related matters.

At the event, delegates will ponder a new framework post 2016 informed by past and recent developments of their role in community and nation building.

This is an opportunity to be part of a monumental watershed moment for the institution of traditional leadership.
